Hello Kitty Wedding Rings

By Olga Davydova

Posted 25 September, 2007 in Kawaii, Loony Accessories

Now this is pretty crazy! If you love Hello Kitty so much that you’d like to turn your big day into an advertisement for this kawaii character then go ahead and buy these platinum wedding bands (versions for bride and groom are available) with Hello Kitty’s adorable face and the word Sanrio engraved on them. The rings can be customized to have the couple’s initials and the date of the wedding engraved on them too.

Just remember, you’ll be carrying this tiny “ad” on your wedding finger for life, or if you’re less lucky, for quite a long while. I think this is rather creepy.

Fashionably Cute continues to cover London Fashion Week

Gareth Pugh is one of the most surreal designers out there. The stuff he does is so unbelievably wacky and often cute that he’s a firm favorite of Fashionably Cute’s blog, although you’d never ever see me wearing any of his creations.

After covering (almost) the entire New York Fashion Week Fashionably Cute has moved on to the coverage of London Fashion Week, Spring-Summer 2008. Here are the cute highlights from Topshop’s show.

The famous chain of clothing stores has out together a collection for modern hippies. The cutest highlight from the show: little flower power dresses.

How to start your own fashion line

By Olga Davydova

Posted 16 September, 2007 in Tools & Resources for Fashionistas, Discoveries

I’ve found an excellent website for all fashionistas aspiring to become the next Zac Posen: Dobizo is an amazing blog with plenty of information about starting your own fashion line.

The author is a young man named Fredrickus Williford who knows the industry very well, he studied fashion marketing and at 22 he already has his own successful t-shirt line Scout Union Apparel.

The information is presented in well structured articles, along with industry news and FAQ guides on all aspects of indie fashion business, from finding manufacturers to getting celebrities to wear the clothes you designed. My favorite post is Top 100 mistakes clothing lines make. All in all, it’s like Problogger for young designers. Definitely worth reading.

Wendy Brandes Jewelry

By Olga Davydova

Posted 14 September, 2007 in Cute Choice

One of Fashionably Cute’s best blog friends and top commenters is Wendy Brandes. She is an awesome jewelry designer with a unique style. Currently she designs fine jewelry under the name Gigi Caron, but is soon to relaunch under her own name.

Some of her pieces are just very cute, like the strawberry above and the apple below.

Some are inspired by famous historical jewelry, like this Borgia Ring.

The original ring was owned by Lucretia Borgia, who was the daughter of a pope and a member of the powerful and influential Borgia family. The ring had a hidden compartment where she kept poison for her enemies. Wendy’s ring has this compartment too. Poison sold separately.

By the way, Wendy’s Borgia Ring was among the items that Britney Spears sort of borrowed from the set of an OK! photoshoot and later wore while frolicking in the pool with her assistant.

The designs are available online from Gigi Caron

New York Fashion Week, day 7, Cute Highlights, a Source of Inspiration for Marc Jacobs, Collections by Betsey Johnson, Calvin Klein, Zac Posen

By Olga Davydova

Posted 13 September, 2007 in Sizzling Cute, Fashion, Trends

Fashionably Cute continues to cover this week’s New York Fashion Week.

Marc Jacobs has made an amazingly cute collection, turning his attention to retro flight attendant uniform for his second line Marc by Marc Jacobs.

I read somewhere a few months ago that Marc had visited Japan and brought lots of Japanese dolly magazines back to the USA for inspiration.

There’s an awesome Japanese doll magazine called Dollybird, and one of last year’s issues of this mag was entirely dedicated to air hostess wear for dolls. It had pictures of uniforms of various airlines, from different years, and for all kinds of dolls. It even included patterns for Blythe and some other Japanese dollies. So my guess is that Dollybird was probably one of the main sources of inspiration for Marc.

Adopt an Art Piglet

By Olga Davydova

Posted 11 September, 2007 in Art, Cute Beat

The Victorian Pig Doll that I wrote about yesterday was designed by pig artist Charles Stephan for the Korean company Elfdoll.

Charles has also designed an incredible little pig sculpture for a program called Adopt an Art Piglet, that can brighten up anyone’s day and generally makes people faint from cuteness.

Not only does the tiny piglet make an awesome gift, it also gives you an opportunity to help real pigs. Part of the profits from the sales of these sculptures goes to an international animal friendly pig organization of choice.
