Bunnies are kawaii. Bunnies with pancakes on their heads are super kawaii.

By Olga Davydova

Posted 22 October, 2007 in Cute Beat

This post was written by Fashionably Cute’s contributing editor Wendy Brandes, an awesome jewelry designer (of Gigi Caron and Wendy Brandes Jewelry), journalist, blogger and fashion warrior on a never ending quest for scary fish shaped shoes.

A million Internet years ago, in 2001, I was addicted to the cuteness that was Hironori Akutagawa’s bunny site. Oolong the bunny had a special talent: the ability to balance things on his head.

Korean Teddy Bear Museum

By Olga Davydova

Posted 18 October, 2007 in Gallery of Artists, Cute Beat

Russian Livejournal user dkphoto has visited Jeju Teddy Bear Museum in South Korea and took a bunch of photos of the museum’s treasures. Here are the links to his photo stories: 1, 2, 3, you don’t have to know Russian to be able to admire the beauty of the pictures.

The best part of the exhibition is the “Role of Teddy Bears in World Art”, pretty impressive versions of famous masterpieces, or rather a chance to see how they would have looked if teddy bears ruled the world. So kawaii! Here are several most recognizable paintings and sculptures.

This Little Piggy Went to the Bakery…

By Olga Davydova

Posted 16 October, 2007 in Food Beat, Cute Beat

Please welcome Fashionably Cute’s new contributing editor Wendy Brandes, who is an awesome jewelry designer (of Gigi Caron and Wendy Brandes Jewelry), journalist and blogger with a great sense of humour and a big passion for all things kawaii. This is the first guest post by her for Fashionably Cute, and I really hope our collaboration continues.

Now I must have pigs on the brain, because the first thing I thought of
when I saw these button bobby pins was … pig snouts!

And what could be cuter than a Pigorian chant?

That’s oink, folks!

More kawaii from Wendy Brandes

By Olga Davydova

Posted 8 October, 2007 in Food Fun, Inspiration

Fashionably Cute’s friend, tremendous jewelry designer and scary fish shaped shoe lover Wendy Brandes has revealed herself as a huge kawaii fan. She has demonstrated a great ability of finding adorable stuff online, so I’m even going to offer her the ultra-prestigious position of contributing editor at Fashionably Cute! Just look at her recent discoveries:

Hamster pizza

Farm animal shaped cookies

Wendy has also designed a cute baby wolf necklace.

Well, of course, this necklace is supposed to look like a grown-up fang shaped wolf, but due to my kawaii loving nature I’d like to think it’s a tiny puppy swaddled in a blanket, such as this (even though it’s a baby wombat)…

Adopt an Art Piglet

By Olga Davydova

Posted 11 September, 2007 in Art, Cute Beat

The Victorian Pig Doll that I wrote about yesterday was designed by pig artist Charles Stephan for the Korean company Elfdoll.

Charles has also designed an incredible little pig sculpture for a program called Adopt an Art Piglet, that can brighten up anyone’s day and generally makes people faint from cuteness.

Not only does the tiny piglet make an awesome gift, it also gives you an opportunity to help real pigs. Part of the profits from the sales of these sculptures goes to an international animal friendly pig organization of choice.

Victorian Pig Doll

By Olga Davydova

Posted 10 September, 2007 in Other Crazy Things, Cute Beat

Some doll enthusiasts may remember Peteena, the wacky vintage fashion doll with a human body and a poodle head.

Korean company Elfdoll together with an awesome pig artist Charles Stephan have gone even further producing a very limited (only 100 pieces) and quite expensive BJD (ball jointed collectible doll) called Alice Cherry Blossom, with a pig head, dressed in stylish and detailed Gothic Lolita costumes (in fact, it looks as if it’s been dressed by Ralph Lauren, no less). By the way, the doll has a pig/human blody, it’s got a tiny curled tail.

The piglet’s face is rather realistic, but it’s incredibly cute!!! Just look at that sweet expression! The doll is to be released in October.

Wearing Hello Kitty is a new way of punishment (for Thai policemen)

By Olga Davydova

Posted 6 August, 2007 in Kawaii, Cute Beat, Debate

I don’t know about you, but for me wearing Hello Kitty items is a lot of fun. I’ve got a scarf and a beanie hat with the character, lots of keyrings, cell phone straps, cell phone screen cleaners, make up pouches, not to mention note pads, pens, pencils, erasers, mugs, trinket boxes and dozens of collectible plushies.

However for Thai policemen sporting Hello Kitty paraphernalia is a really bad form of punishment for breaking the rules: being late, parking in wrong places, etc.

Although this is better than prison, the poor guys are too embarrassed to wear a special pink Sanrio armband for several days. Thai police officials say that the armband is designed to shame the wearer. They also mention that further offences would be dealt with using a “more traditional disciplinary panel”.

Duh! Of course, Hello Kitty arm bands are not traditional, they’re not even sold at Sanrio shops! My guess is that the next form of punishment would be writing out parking tickets with Hello Kitty pens on Hello Kitty paper, wearing pink uniform with the familiar face on their badges, driving pink Hello Kitty police cars and cooking their lunch on a Hello Kitty toaster.

What do you think? What other forms of punishment would you suggest? Who else should be punished by wearing Hello Kitty? Please leave your opinion in the comments to this post.

Looney Tunes Tweety Bird gets its own designer line

By Olga Davydova

Posted 27 July, 2007 in Inspiration

Looney Tunes’ cutest character Tweety Bird gets its own designer line. Fabsugar reports that the newly opened Tweety Boutique in Beverly Hills now carries an exclusive limited edition collection of bright yellow items from clothes to home accessories, all based on the adorable canary (most people believe it’s a canary, although in fact the bird’s species is undefined). If you buy something from the boutique you’ll get a shopping bag with Tweety on it. What a deal!

PS: Tweety is most certainly a male. The fashion line is for women.

Decide what’s tackier

By Olga Davydova

Posted 23 July, 2007 in Cute Beat, Polls

Gigglesugar offers you to decide what’s tackier: Judith Leiber Poodle Bag that Fashionably Cute has discovered or a random poodle bag with feathers found at an online shop. At the moment (while I’m writing this post), Judith Leiber is the uncontested leader ;)

Vote here.
