I don’t know about you, but for me wearing Hello Kitty items is a lot of fun. I’ve got a scarf and a beanie hat with the character, lots of keyrings, cell phone straps, cell phone screen cleaners, make up pouches, not to mention note pads, pens, pencils, erasers, mugs, trinket boxes and dozens of collectible plushies.

However for Thai policemen sporting Hello Kitty paraphernalia is a really bad form of punishment for breaking the rules: being late, parking in wrong places, etc.

Although this is better than prison, the poor guys are too embarrassed to wear a special pink Sanrio armband for several days. Thai police officials say that the armband is designed to shame the wearer. They also mention that further offences would be dealt with using a “more traditional disciplinary panel”.

Duh! Of course, Hello Kitty arm bands are not traditional, they’re not even sold at Sanrio shops! My guess is that the next form of punishment would be writing out parking tickets with Hello Kitty pens on Hello Kitty paper, wearing pink uniform with the familiar face on their badges, driving pink Hello Kitty police cars and cooking their lunch on a Hello Kitty toaster.

What do you think? What other forms of punishment would you suggest? Who else should be punished by wearing Hello Kitty? Please leave your opinion in the comments to this post.
