Creative use of fried eggs in bentos

By Olga Davydova

Posted 27 August, 2007 in Kawaii Bento Photos, Kawaii, Food Fun

I’m pretty sure these are the cutest fried eggs you’ve ever seen. What a creative way to cook breakfast! You can try this at home. The faces are apparently made with bits of nori and maybe carrot.

The top photo features a Japanese kawaii character by San-X, Rilakkuma bear’s little chick friend (seen on a superb evening wallet we covered not long ago).

The sources for the images are Exciting character lunch and ayanamadoka

Marc by Marc Jacobs Polka Dot Denim Satchel

By Olga Davydova

Posted 23 August, 2007 in Trends

Señora Cartera has discovered an uber cute polka dot satchel by Marc Jacobs. The bag is made of denim fabric, but together with the right accessories it can add cuteness to an evening outfit:

  1. Marc by Marc Jacobs Polka Dot Denim Satchel, available at Shopbop for$258
  2. Pair it with a romantic white woven cotton Eyelet Tube Dress from Forever21 with a cute bow detail on the waist, only $27.80
  3. Throw a Lux Black Babydoll Cardigan by Urban Outfitters over the dress, just $48
  4. Patent Slingback Peeptoes by Pelle Moda from Zappos will work best with this outfit, $147.95
  5. Pearls add a nice touch to the black/white/grayish and polka dot theme of the outfit, and yellow gold is a good color match for the bag’s hardware. You can wear these inexpensive 14K Yellow Gold Rice Pearl Earrings ($25.49) and Pendant ($47.99) from Target

Skip Dessert T-Shirts

By Olga Davydova

Posted 22 August, 2007 in Discoveries, Food Fun

If you’re in the market for a hilariously cute t-shirt, then go to Threadless, their Skip Dessert T-Shirt is too cute to bear. Just look at that adorable dessert that is literally skipping with the help of two smiling vegetables. The cupcake’s facial expression as it does its exercise routine is priceless. Smiling food is the cutest thing ever, isn’t it?

Pretty strange to see this lady being so afraid of the cute little peaceful cupcake :)
The t-shirts are available through Threadless.

Hello Kitty Arcimboldo: One of the Cutest Bento Photos Ever!

By Olga Davydova

Posted 21 August, 2007 in Kawaii Bento Photos, Kawaii, Food Beat, Food Fun

I discovered this incredibly cute bento photo when I googled “cute character” in Japanese. It’s Hello Kitty in a bunny (or Totoro) costume, a real work or art.

There is a huge picture here so you can view all the amazing details. The creativity is stunning. The kawaii kitty’s face is made of rice, the nose is made of a single corn kernel, the bunny ears are made of slices of cucumber. There’s a tiny hen apparently made of an egg and bits of carrot and a little yellow chick below the Hello Kitty figure.

This picture reminds me of Guiseppe Arcimboldo’s works that I’ve seen in the Louvre. Via ayanamadoka

Kawaii Geisha Tea Set

By Olga Davydova

Posted 20 August, 2007 in Kawaii, Lifestyle

This kawaii Geisha Tea Set absolutely blows my mind! Not only does it carry an incredibly cute and simple Japanese girl character, but the color scheme is amazingly well chosen too.

This Girly Geisha tea set is a highly stylised, but unique British interpretation of the traditional Japanese tea ceremony, inspired by a recent trip to Japan. - Says the designer’s website

The tea set was created by ceramics and cards designer Sara Taylor from the UK. All her products are manufactured in the UK from fine bone china. They are functional pieces of tableware, and would make a great gift for those people who, like my grandmother, love collecting porcelain.

The tea set is apparently not sold online, but you can buy it through Sara Taylor catalog.

Kawaii Bambi Manicure Tutorial in a Japanese Nail Design Magazine

By Olga Davydova

Posted 16 August, 2007 in Kawaii, Discoveries, Beauty

I’ve seen lots of cute nail art tutorials in Japanese nail design magazines, but this kawaii step by step Bambi manicure tutorial in Nail Max magazine absolutely took my breath away (I’m sorry for the bad picture quality though, I couldn’t find bigger images).

No knowledge of Japanese necessary. All the steps are shown in pictures (only a small portion of the pictures is posted above), the supplies shouldn’t be too difficult to find in your local nail art salons or stores.

Find the tutorial in Nail Max Magazine, August 2007 issue, sold on Ebay.

Directory of Independent Fashion Designers and Retailers

By Olga Davydova

Posted 15 August, 2007 in Tools & Resources for Fashionistas, Discoveries

I’m always on the lookout for new cute brands and items to feature on Fashionably Cute. Many cute items are produced by rather obscure independent retailers, so searching the net for these shops is often difficult and time consuming.

Killer Cotton is a tool that proves to be very helpful in my quest. It’s the ultimate directory and search engine for independent hard to find retailers offering all kinds of products, including cute ones ;) It even provides ratings of the websites it lists, evaluting products, services and site usability and design.

The first few clicks on Killer Cotton have led me to these super cute discoveries:

“Coco” - Customizable Large Sunglasses Case available for $25 from Nitro*A*gogo

Lolibomb Vegan Whipped Lip Scrub that exfoliates, moisturizes, and primes dry lips for your lipstick and gloss. Made of organic products and sold for $14 at Lolibomb

Petite Leaf Straplet - made with cute Japanese fabric, colored cotton twill and denim, available for $22 from Littleoddforest

Hello Kitty Pullip Doll

By Olga Davydova

Posted 9 August, 2007 in Kawaii, Sizzling Cute

Kawaii collectors rejoice! In October Jun Planning is going to release their new Pullip doll dressed as Hello Kitty!

The blond doll will be wearing a Hello Kitty costume fax fur trimmed hood, a pink dress a la gothic lolita (sweet lolita style), white frilly bloomers, pink striped stockings and a pair of cute white faux fur shoes.

What could be better than such a cute fashion doll as Pullip and the ultimate kawaii character Hello Kitty combined? Perhaps only Hello Kitty Blythe!
