Cute Sushi Decorating Ideas
By Olga Davydova
Posted 28 August, 2007 in Kawaii Bento Photos, Kawaii, Food Fun
It seems Fashionably Cute is in its food cuteness mode this week.

These kawaii sushi are not only yummy but delicious even to look at. Great food decorating ideas from Japan!
I love cooking sushi, I even have my own secret recipes for California Rolls and Unagi Nigiri, and I’d love to make them more unique looking.
The top photo features the adorable San-X Monochrome Pigs characters called Monokuro Boo. According to the source of the photo the character “portraits” are made of cheese and nori.
Note the “fish” with eyes in the second photo

Pet fish soap
By Olga Davydova
Posted 8 August, 2007 in Beauty

Animal themed items are always cute. Spice up your bathroom with this awesome, crazy and colorful soap shaped like… a plastic bag filled with “water” and a pet fish floating inside.
The “fish” is made of vibrant colored plastic. The “plastic bag” and “water” are actually made of scentless clear vegetable based glycerine soap! Insanely adorable and fun.

Angry Babyz: Japanese cute characters featuring baby animals throwing tantrums
By Olga Davydova
Posted 7 August, 2007 in Kawaii, Discoveries

I’m pretty sure most parents are unhappy if they kids are prone to throwing tantrums. However, Japanese people tend to see cuteness everywhere. Apparently they find even unpretty behavior cute.

Angry Babyz is a kawaii character line featuring rather cute baby animals with spectacularly furious facial expressions. The brand’s tagline is: “Mad Cool & Crazy”.

Of course, there is a whole bunch of merchandise with the characters available in Japan, like these extremely cute mugs. I really wish we could buy all the stuff here too.

Cute San-X Rilakkuma Chicks Evening Wallet
By Olga Davydova
Posted 1 August, 2007 in Kawaii, Discoveries

OMG! San-X is planning to release a limited edition long evening wallet featuring a tiny chick who is the best friend of the company’s leading character Rilakkuma bear. It’s available for preorder at their online shop, and will be shipped out to customers only in November.
The wallet is made of gold faux leather embossed with chick pattern and decorated with rhinestones. Apparently it also comes with a chick shaped piggy bank and a “good fortune” amulet for attracting money to your wallet. Pretty clever!
I really love this adorable wallet, which is a perfect example of Fashionably Cute’s Standard #1. It doesn’t look tacky, because the cuteness is not over the top here, and I’m even thinking about buying it (although it’s only sold in Japan, but it’s possible to purchase Japanese goods through a shopping deputy). It would go so well with my Aaron Basha duckling pendant!

The wallet doubles as a clutch and would accent an evening outfit perfectly. To avoid the dreaded cuteness overdose, I’d wear the clutch and the duckling pendant with a classic little black dress, a black cardigan and black shoes.

Standard of Cute Fashion #1: Kawaii Characters are Fashionably Cute
By Olga Davydova
Posted 31 July, 2007 in The Standards of Cute Fashion

Fashion items with cute characters are certainly perfect examples of Fashionably Cute’s Standard of Cute Fashion #1

Hello Kitty is without a doubt Queen of all Kawaii, but any cute character will do. There are plenty to choose from, created by famous cute Japanese brands (Sanrio, San-X, Crux, Q-Lia and others), Korean companies (Barunson, etc), as well as Western advocates of cuteness (from Disney to Warner Brothers, even though they are not Kawaii, they’re adorable anyway).

When applied to fashion items sweet little characters are clear winners, they can accent any outfit nicely. You can have anything character themed: from t-shirts to handbags and shoes, from iPod gadgets to wallpaper, hairdryers and toasters, from keychains and cell phone straps to diamond and platinum necklaces.

Just remember Fashionably Cute’s mantra: “Do not overdose cuteness!”, that means don’t dress in Hello Kitty from head to toe.

What are The Standards of Cute Fashion?
By Olga Davydova
Posted 31 July, 2007 in The Standards of Cute Fashion
Before Fashionably Cute welcomed its first visitors Cute Fashion movement had not been governed by any kind of code. Anyone could call a fashion item “cute”, but what was meant by the word “cute” in relation to fashion? No-one could be sure.
Inspired by Cute Overload’s “Rules of Cuteness” Fashionably Cute has defined “The Standards of Cute Fashion”. Now you’ll have a specific set of recommendations for incorporating cuteness into your style.
We’ll be adding new Standards on a regular basis. Please watch this space!
